International Women’s Day 2025: Connecting talent to shape the future of autonomous mobility

To mark International Women’s Day on March 8, we’re celebrating female team members who are helping to shape the future of autonomous driving. At TIER IV, people from diverse backgrounds contribute to advancing this technology, each bringing valuable expertise to the table.

Throughout March, we’re sharing stories of women across the company, highlighting their experiences and the unique perspectives they bring to our vision of making autonomous driving accessible to all. In this installment, we hear from Eriko, an experienced HR professional who joined TIER IV to help showcase Japanese innovation.

I work in recruitment at TIER IV, just as I did at my previous company, a foreign-affiliated firm. I joined TIER IV because I wanted to help bring Japanese innovation to the world. The people I hire give shape to ideas and technologies that I could never have realized on my own, and it’s incredibly rewarding to feel that my work has played a part.

I work full-time while raising two children, ages 3 and 8. I hope that seeing me enjoy my job will inspire them as they think about their future careers. And when they eventually join the workforce, I hope they’ll remember the passion I brought to my work and think, “I want to find a job like that too." I also hope that by the time they become adults, finding joy and satisfaction in the workplace is the norm across society, regardless of gender.

As a parent, I find TIER IV's flexible arrangements a huge help – for example, remote work and full flextime with no core working hours. However, I still don't have as much time to spend with my children as I would like. This makes me feel even more invested in my role – because the development of autonomous driving technology has the potential to create a better future for them.

We regularly welcome new team members, which really makes it feel like the company is growing day by day. One of the most appealing things about TIER IV is the diversity – of nationalities, work styles, and perspectives. This creates an environment where people can be themselves and thrive as professionals. With so many people from different backgrounds and at various stages in their careers, there’s no shortage of role models to learn from. It’s great to be involved in recruitment at such a company, gaining new perspectives in the process.

Looking ahead, I want to develop a recruitment framework that supports an even more diverse range of talent. In the advanced field of autonomous driving, we need people with a variety of skills and backgrounds, not just engineers.

Fostering a work culture where everyone can thrive, regardless of gender or nationality, will ultimately drive growth at TIER IV. And as the company grows, I want to keep working toward a society where my children’s generation has more freedom and fulfillment in their careers.
